Ballet Preljocaj

Created in 2016 and based on a traditional and fantastical Chinese tale, La Fresque (The Painting on the Wall) is “infused with sensual beauty.” (Le Figaro) The piece tells the story of a painting come to life and a journey into another dimension, where the picture becomes a place of transcendence and a person can become part of the picture. The ballet seeks to explore the mysterious relations between representation and reality, fixed image and movement, immediacy and duration, the live and the inert.

Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Dance Company

A Letter to My Nephew is an intimate multimedia piece for nine dancers, composed as a celebration and meditation of the life of his nephew, Lance T. Briggs, a scholarship student at the San Francisco Ballet School who became a successful model and songwriter before falling into drugs and prostitution. Jones set the work as a series of postcards to his cherished nephew, weighing the difficulties of his life alongside today’s political landscape.
