This jazz guitar pioneer and 20-time Grammy winner is known worldwide for his phenomenal improvisational performances. His trademark style reinvented the way a new generation of musicians plays the guitar. Metheny continually embraces new technology to evolve his sounds, even helping to develop new kinds of guitars along the way. Over the years, he has performed with artists as diverse as Steve Reich, Ornette Coleman, Herbie Hancock, Milton Nascimento, and David Bowie. With brilliant compositions embracing everything from modern jazz to rock to classical, it’s no surprise that he was recently named a 2018 NEA Jazz Master — or that he was the youngest member and only the fourth guitarist to be inducted into the Downbeat Hall of Fame. He is joined by his longtime drummer Antonio Sánchez, Malaysian-Australian bassist Linda Oh, and British pianist Gwilym Simcock.
